Hello, dear readers. Today we will talk about fixing problems with the Windows 7 Update Center. The Update Center is a software tool built into the operating system, the purpose of which is to search, download and install files important for the operation of the OS. Interaction with the tool can be performed either manually or automatically.

Sometimes a situation arises when a service does not work as expected, or does not start at all, producing an error or showing no signs of life. Since some directives are extremely important for system security, you should figure out why Windows 7 Update is not working and how to fix this problem. This is exactly what we will learn.

Solution from the developers

Failures do not happen just like that, and if the program does not work or functions incorrectly, then there is an error in the OS. Microsoft developers have provided for this possibility and posted instructions on how to restore the central heating center on the official website. The following actions will not give 100% results, but you should try:

  1. Disable the system update service using the task manager, wait for 15 minutes, and then enable the program again. Start a new check for add-ons.
  2. In the central heating settings, activate automatic system updates with an interval of 24 hours.
  3. Download the troubleshooter from the official website. You should run it and follow the instructions of the program, wait until it ends and check if the error remains.

If problems in the functioning of the Windows 7 central heating center are associated with violations in the operating system, this method should give the necessary result. If the method does not help, you can try the “folk” ways.

Troubleshooting

What to do if the service is running but not functioning as expected? This problem can be solved through simple and quick manipulations; detailed instructions can be found below:

  1. In the Run window, enter services.msc and search.
  2. On the page that opens, select the faulty service and stop it.
  3. Use the built-in search to find the SoftwareDistribution folder.
  4. Rename the found folder by adding 12 to the end of the name without a space.
  5. Disable antivirus software and third-party software using the task manager.
  6. Repeat steps 1 and 2, only this time unpause the central heating system.

After performing these manipulations, you should restart the PC and check the result. If you did everything correctly, this method should help you solve the problem with the malfunctioning program. Judging by the reviews, this method really helped at least dozens of users who faced a similar situation to yours - why not try it if the official Microsoft method did not work?

Now you understand how to solve the situation with a faulty Windows 7 update center. Share this information with your friends, perhaps this knowledge will also be useful to them. Also, don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss new articles and instructions that will provide you with invaluable help in working with your PC.

Good day, friends! Everyone probably knows that by updating software products, you not only expand the capabilities of the updated program, but also improve the security of the computer as a whole. Sometimes, during this procedure, different situations arise, so I decided to touch on the topic of why Windows 7 updates are not installed. There may not be many reasons why an update does not occur in Windows 7.

In this article I will try to tell you everything as briefly and clearly as possible. With other versions of Windows, everything is the same, with the exception of some subtleties (for example, in XP, “Windows Update” opens a little differently). However, I don't think it matters, so here we go!

Diagnosing the problem with a utility from Microsoft

Let's try to resume the process manually! To do this, as a first option, you can try downloading the Windows Update troubleshooter from the official Microsoft website. To download the utility, we need to go to the official website, link.

Now you need to click on the image with a man holding a key in his hands to download this program.

Then install it on your computer. Check the “I Accept” box, now click “Next”.

When the utility is installed, you can try to update Windows 7. That is, as you understand, no further user intervention is required, since the program does everything automatically.

Checking the system settings

If the method above did not help you, then proceed to setting up Windows for updating without any additional downloads. To do this, follow this path: “Start” - “Control Panel” - “System and Security”.

Next, click “Windows Update.” On the left side of the screen there is an inscription: “Search for updates”, click on this item. Wait a little, after which the “Install Now” button will appear on the right, which, as you understand, must be clicked to begin installing them.

Lots of requests

If you still can’t fix the problem, then close all windows that relate to Windows Update and try again in about 20 minutes. In the meantime, you can read the article further.

You can also wait until the scheduled update occurs. If you don't have it configured, then let's do it now. To do this, click “Settings” on the left.

Check all the boxes and select “Install updates automatically (recommended).” Specify a time convenient for you to download and install updates.

Don't forget to click "OK" to apply all the above steps.

Proxy server

It is possible that you are trying to download updates via the Internet at work. But admins, by closing the ports through which updates are downloaded, pose a dead end to this task.

To check this, you can take a computer or laptop to your home and try to do it via your Internet. If you have a computer, then there is no point in carrying this colossus, then go to the admin and talk about the situation that has arisen. Tell us what measures you took to make him understand that his help is now urgently needed.

Security tools and viruses

Do you have a firewall or antivirus installed? Then before updating you must disable all security-related software. It is possible that they are the ones blocking communication with Microsoft servers.

Viruses may be the reason why updates for Windows 7 are not installed. To check your computer for viruses, download a free utility or. These programs do not require installation and are intuitive to use. If any viruses are found, then we can safely remove them.

If there is a firewall, then add an exception rule for these sites:

http://*.update.microsoft.com
https://*.update.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com

If errors occur during the update

If you encounter errors when updating Windows, then this tool will come in handy. To download the fix, go to . By the way, on the same page, after they talk about how this utility works, there are also some recommendations that relate to my article.

Just like last time, click on the image with the man, download the utility and install it on your computer. How to download and install the program can be seen visually a little higher, but I think you remember everything.

Minor problems

If you still have an unresolved question about why Windows 7 updates are not installed, check the free space on your hard drive. No matter how trivial and stupid it may sound, in my practice there was a case when the C: drive was completely full, and the user also wanted to load it with updates for Windows 7.

By the way, for the system to work stably, you should have 3-5 GB of free space on drive C:. We digress a bit, but this is a really important point for users.

Do you have unlicensed Windows? Are you using a pirated version? Then this problem may be due to illegal software. If you are in this situation, then just forget about any updates.

Of course, to download updates, you must have Internet access. Check to see if your internet connection has been interrupted. You can also close all programs, even those that do not relate to the Internet.

So I have listed all the main problems in the system that could prevent Windows from updating. I sincerely hope that you found a solution that corrected the situation.

Even though Microsoft no longer supports the Windows 7 operating system, it still provides security updates for it. The question of why updates are not installed is very relevant. This article will provide answers to fix common problems.

Automatic update disabled

A common reason that Windows 7 does not find updates is that auto-update is disabled in the settings. Enabling this feature is quite simple:

It happens that checkbox missing on the taskbar. Then you can solve the problem in another way:

  • To do this, go to “Start”, select “ Control Panel»;
  • Further " system and safety»;
  • then select from the list " Turn automatic updates on or off».

Incorrect download of updates

You can fix the error of incorrect downloading of updates for Windows in the following way:

After this, you can restart the installation.

Registry problems

The reason that Windows 7 does not update may be a registry malfunction. You can fix it as follows:

The update service is not working correctly

Some problems with installing packages are related to the service responsible for downloading them. The failure can be resolved in several ways:

If the process fails to start again, you will need to perform additional steps:

Lack of hard disk space

The problems can be quite simple, for example, lack of hard drive space. For the installation services to function properly, you need minimum 5 GB free space.

The solution to the problem is quite simple. Requires removal unnecessary files and programs from the system disk. To do this, you can use standard Windows 7 tools, for example, “” located in the Control Panel.

Internet problems

Problems with the Internet connection may be the reason why updates are not installed:

Damage to system component storage

It happens that problems can be caused by damage to system components. There may be reasons a bunch of:

  • 0x800B0101 – the certificate could not be installed;
  • 0x8007371B – transaction distribution error;
  • 0x80070490 – error of a non-existent or deleted update file;
  • 0x8007370B – error identifying object properties;
  • 0x80070057 – parameters error;
  • 0x800736CC – element matching error;
  • 0x8007000D – data initialization error;
  • 0x800F081F – missing required files.

Above are the most common errors that occur when system components are damaged. There are several methods for permission.

One of the most effective is installationWindows 7 in update mode. This option is characterized by the correction of most errors, while it will allow you to save personal files and system settings.

For this required:

When you run this command, the system will check the integrity of the files and will be able to restore them. If the data is recovered, you can run the installation again.

Error 643

This crash is dependent on a Microsoft NET Framework service. To solve a software problem, you will need to do the following:

The second option involves removing this component and reinstalling it.

Other solutions

In addition to the above methods for correcting failures when installing updates using system tools, you can use additional software.

Using Microsoft FixIt

To troubleshoot problems, you will need the Fixit utility, created by the operating system manufacturer. It eliminates problems associated with the operation of the Update Center.

After downloading the software, installation is required. During this, the program will automatically create restore point. The utility will search for data about failures and try to fix the files.

Clearing cache

In some situations, Windows 7 does not search for updates due to loading problems. The essence of the process is that the files are loaded into the cache memory and stored there until the user starts installing them:

Running an update manually

To manually start, you will need to call the “Win + R” utility and enter the request “ Wuapp" In the window that opens, select "". In the “Important” section, select the first installation option. Thus, the user will install updates manually.

In modern realities, the Windows Update service is one of the critical ones, so problems with it should be resolved first, because timely receipt of updates is the key to system security. This is especially true for older systems, which simply due to age may have a larger number of potentially vulnerable services and components. Today we will tell you about one interesting case when Windows 7 completely stops searching for and installing updates, or rather makes this process endless.

Judging by reviews on the Internet, the appearance of this malfunction coincided with the transition of Windows 7 to , so many habitually blame Microsoft for what is happening, and those who are especially active even make lists of “not recommended” updates, which sometimes even includes Convenience Rollup for Windows 7 (KB3125574). This approach can hardly be called reasonable, since in our opinion many people confuse cause with effect.

The transition to a new update system is largely a forced measure, since the number of updates required for Windows 7, as well as possible combinations of them, has long exceeded all reasonable limits and it has become absolutely impossible to talk about any stability and predictability of this system. Our experience shows that much more often selective updates lead to such problems, but it’s difficult to blame users for this.

If the system has just been installed or automatic updating is turned off, then bringing it up to date can take a lot of time, at the same time, to work it is necessary to update some components, say Internet Explorer, as well as close the most critical vulnerabilities. As a result, the set of updates installed on the machine is more reminiscent of a hodgepodge and can lead to the most unexpected results.

One day, one of the virtual machines in the laboratory, which we updated from time to time, refused to install updates. The main symptom of this problem is an endless search for updates:

If you download and try to install updates manually, you will get a similar picture:

None of the most obvious ways to correct this system behavior, including those described on the Microsoft website, brought success, so we undertook a detailed study of the system logs, which can be found in the directory C:\Windows\Logs\CBS. Quite soon it became clear that the system could not complete the installation of a number of updates, leaving the following messages in the log:

CBS Appl: detectParent: package: Package_40_for_KB3210131~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0, no parent found, go absent

This is a typical example of broken dependencies: the update package tries to find the parent package and cannot do this, which results in an endless search loop.

An approximate scenario for this problem to occur is as follows: the system downloads a certain number of updates and tries to install them, but since this is a lengthy process, it most often fails to complete it. For example, a fairly common scenario is when users simply forcefully turn off the system unit, having received a message upon shutdown that a couple of dozen updates should be installed.

Then an update is manually installed into the system, which breaks dependencies for packages that have already been downloaded and started to be installed. As a result, the system unsuccessfully tries to resolve dependencies, completely paralyzing the service.

Also, if you forcefully shut down the system during the update process, a slightly different error may occur, which is associated with damage to the installed package, which leads to an endless installation process:

The mechanism of this problem is very similar to the previous one; before installing updates, the system tries to finish the already started process, but cannot do this, since the package is damaged, it also cannot fix the damage, so again everything results in an endless cycle, only preparing for installation.

Now that the causes and mechanism of the problem are clear, you should find a way to fix it. In this case, the DISM tool will come to our aid; launch the command line as an administrator and run the short command:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

It may take a long time to complete and as a result you should receive a message that the operation was completed successfully. A detailed description of the errors found can be found in the log file at the specified path:

After which it is advisable to delete all the contents of the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and reboot the system.

Now we can try searching for and installing updates again, everything should work.

As you can see, we not only eliminated the problem, but also figured out the reasons for its occurrence, which is much more important. Since it is the understanding of the processes occurring in the system that provides the necessary knowledge and allows for a meaningful approach to diagnostic processes, as opposed to mindlessly copying commands found on the Internet.

The main reasonable way to maintain workstations with Windows OS is to timely update the anti-virus software databases, as well as install all system updates. It is on the latter that I would like to sharpen your attention, because these very system updates create significant advantages for user workstations.

Basically, these system updates improve the reliability of the system as a whole and also improve network security. Installing updates as they become available is an important step towards stability, both in home computer networks and in small business or office networks.

Therefore, if you want to get rid of current problems, as well as prevent future troubles, the first step is to ensure that it independently downloads and installs all the necessary updates. It is not without reason that many novice users who complain that Windows 7 is not updated simply do not know how to turn it on correctly.

Important tip: remember, the update will only work properly if your Internet connection is stable and has no restrictions on downloaded traffic. Therefore, if you are the happy owner of a GPRS modem with unfavorable traffic rates, then you can forget about updates. If you have an ADSL modem that provides decent download throughput, then you can start setting up.

So, if the Windows 7 update does not work, first of all, click on the “Start” button and enter “Update Center” in the system search bar and press the “Enter” key.

To enable automatic updating, the easiest way is to go to the “Settings” tab in the update center, select “Install updates automatically (recommended)”, in the drop-down menu below, select the “daily” update mode, and also set the time at which you plan to download system updates .

At the end, all you have to do is check all the boxes and click “OK”.

If win 7 still does not update, this means that your connection to the Internet is not stable, or your system is activated incorrectly, in other words, it is not “cracked” professionally.

      The package is designed to integrate updates into distributions
      Windows 7 SP1 x86-x64 and Server 2008 R2 SP1 x64, as well as their
      installation on a working system. The installer works with
      any edition of these operating systems, any bit depth and on

      The system must have at least 10 GB of free space on
      hard drive and preferably at least 1 GB of free RAM
      memory.
      The priority of this package is that it not only fixes the functions
      Windows Update 7, but also installs into the system
      all necessary updates. There is no traffic consumption,
      You can partially update without the Internet.

      The main thing after the work is done is the problem of the svchost process and
      CPU (PC processor) load is reduced to 1-3%
      The operating system runs quietly and smoothly without
      tear - :))
      I still have about 50-70 screenshots of Operating systems, but I think the Administrator will punish me...

  • Timofey

    Good day to all those suffering! I would like to add to the message above. After installing this package UpdatePack7R2-16.9.17 I took it here _http://update7.simplix.info/ about fifty updates for the system were downloaded and installed and
    other software from Microsoft, but there are some “misunderstandings”: somehow the installation of updates goes through the stump into the deck!
    PC hangs on installation. The first time I downloaded 24 updates - 22 was installed and froze, then I downloaded 26 - again the computer froze on the 22nd, the third time I downloaded seven and froze on the first update... I had to press Reset every time and the system started
    like after an emergency shutdown. The third time I even cleaned myself for about 20 minutes. Now everything seems to be normal, but somehow I don’t feel any reliability... I thought that everything would go without any hitches on my real 64bit seven and in a virtual machine I’ll check this package on 32bit (I have six systems installed: Professional, Maximum, POSReady7, Standard7-full, Standard7-thin, Windows Thin PC) I’m not a maniac, I was just looking for a system for the Acer Aspire One netbook when XP was sentenced, but then I installed 7 32bit on it and next to it I installed 10 32bit Pro - everything works without problems since last fall. I like the Eight more than the tenth, but it is not installed on 9-inch matchboxes, and in 2008, during the crisis, everyone was riveting non-books... Danila expands the topic of the eight and ten, so there are stokers (Windows Modules Installer Worker) they load the system by 50 % install and install some modules, index something, tear up the computer for two days, then quiet down and occasionally start again... Cool: as soon as you leave the computer somewhere between eight and ten, the service starts and these stokers in the heat drove the computer into shutdown due to overheating (My AMD did not have time to turn on the temperature already 50) There will be news - I’ll sign off, the topic of the Host process in Windows 7 global scale))
    Many thanks to the authors of this article, they are great, this site is like a reference book for me. Thank you for providing a platform for communication!

      I reinstalled the seven (formatting drive C). From the update center, the search is 0. I put “UpdatePack7R2-16.9.17 got it here _http://update7.simplix.info/” - everything worked like clockwork! Thanks a lot!!!

    All the best! For Vadim Nikolaevich and all Windows 7 users. This is an update package for the Seven, I downloaded and installed it, after a reboot the Windows Update service was restored and after 10 minutes it offered to download 24 important and 15 unimportant updates... In a word, the work of the Update Center was restored.
    I'll fix the 32-bit ones in VirtualBox and post the results. All the best and success!

    I agree with Timofame, everything looks like it

    For Vadim Nikolaevich: This is not a hint, but a direction to think... Microsoft was crushed by the toad that on the Apple system there are more than a billion devices running on a ball and they went to the Stakhanov record: By any means stick Windows 10 on everyone and get their billion, but for now they squeezed out somewhere 300 million. The main thing is that somewhere in 2005 new people and new approaches came to Microsoft... And the mess that started was not just for children with Vista, this is a long conversation and will take more than one page, let's go back to seven.
    Introducing Windows 10 to the masses, Microsoft quietly updated the Update Center and downloaded from 3 to 5 gigs of the new system to all PCs and then offered to upgrade to the top ten. For many, everything broke (the system was not installed on the old hardware). The consumer restored the seventh, but problems appeared, two of them: NOT UPDATED and the PROCESSOR was loaded from 30% to 80% for no apparent reason. The processor is loaded by the host process, which is responsible for the update service. The system is trying to find a connection with Microsoft and update, but everything there is broken and converted to the updated update center. The operating system is freaking out, it’s nervous, it wants to update, it seems to see an input on the server, but no connection! I think they changed the principle of pairing tens three times. I’m not a programmer, but a mechanic on a disability group, and these are just versions...
    There was a lot about processor load on networks, like looking for a virus. I dug almost right through the computer, installed SIX different sevens in VirtualBox (Embedded, standard, thin client) and they all have the same symptoms, but in the end you stupidly switch the update center to a non-recommended mode (Don’t search...) and the load on the processor drops to 1% - 3% You just say “Don’t worry, Microsoft doesn’t want money from traffic, I’ll use the saved money to insert you a high-speed flash drive for ReadyBoost, or move it to an SSD. You turn off updates and it goes quiet, the coolers go quiet, three browsers, Skype, XP in the virtual machine everything flies on 8 GB of RAM
    My conclusions about the seven: T-shirts broke it by accident or by someone special so that everyone switched to the ten (Nothing personal, just business)
    My opinion: The most unique operating system from Microsoft is Windows Embedded POSReady 2009. This is XP professional, only it’s beautiful like Vista, and it takes up less RAM than XP, about 220MB of RAM works, I installed it on a PC with 8GB of RAM - this is space!!! It came out after Vista and a little later than Seven, and support until 2019. This??? How to understand by looking at the vinaigrette in the form of the Tenth. What's Ten? This is a tablet Eight crossed with Vista tweaked to seven at the request of insiders from all over the world... But the main feature of the Ten is to eat traffic recklessly. It’s just easier and easier to shovel in traffic than to create something. A dozen, even with a black screen at startup, manage to run to the creators to update the site and gobble up traffic... I think that after XP it was no longer operating systems, but gaming software systems with a huge amount of additional software. And the seventh one is trying to be renewed - they won’t let it, something doesn’t grow together, it struggles and doesn’t come out...
    Sorry, I think so...
